W.A.T.E.R. is my own theraputic method that has taken years for me to perfect. Now I use it with my present clients to change their lives in a dynamic way, usually within a few sessions. The main premise of the WATER Method, is based on the Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Neibur, which states:

“God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference. “

This is one of the conerstone concepts of Alcoholics Anonymous, and although I’m not an AA guy, I found this prayer profound in its ability to change people’s lives.

What if you had the wisdom to know the difference? What would you do with it? Could you accept the things that you couldn’t change?

I used to struggle with anxiety in my own life, and through my own quest to reduce this anxiety, I used this very concept to separate problems out into two worlds: The Inside World, and The Outside World.

The Inside World consists of all the things you can change in your life, which are listed below in the acronym WATER. They are your:

The Outside World is full of things that you can’t change. These are constants like the weather, time, price of gas, the Economy, and other people’s WATER.

When we simplify our lives into these two groups, we can then use our energy wisely and pour it into the areas of our lives that we can change. By accepting what we can’t change, we don’t just stop thinking about problems that aren’t in our control, we resolve that no amount of thinking or worrying is going to change the situation; so we come to a resolution about the problem that allows us to remove it from our thought life in a healthy way.

The WATER Method is also a book I’m writing that explains this better, and with any luck, I will have it out by the end of the year. However, you don’t have to wait that long to start using it in your own life. By working with me, I’ll show you how to implement this method to reduce your anxiety, set boundaries with others, and gain control of your life.
