Too right! You can always achieve great things, but your integrity is something that won’t leave you. You think Michael Vick is going to get any sympathy from anyone anytime soon? Years later he will be known as the dog fighting football player, and though he apparently had a good career, he has lost millions in endorsements and salary due to his poor popularity. Integrity does matter, and can affect your achievements.

Your referral base is case in point. Integrity matters, to a lot more people than we like to think. Fame is a lot more fleeting, and doesn’t have nearly the result integrity does. Heck, just look at Paris Hilton. I ask my teenage clients what she’s best known for; their response: “Porn.” You can be famous for the wrong things, and have it ruin your integrity.

I suppose so, and perhaps there’s nothing we can do about that. The choice is to sit and get angry about that, or to take action to ensure that you don’t end up with something like this in the news headlines. I would hate to be known for something like this, and have it as the crowning achievement in my obituary (which is where big mistakes often end up, sadly).
